Taking Firepower Forward

Indirect Fire Support has seen some major changes over the last 5 years, with modernisation projects undertaken across the world. Technological improvements are being made to weapon delivery platforms, precision munitions, target acquisition sensors, fire control systems and C4I capability alongside conceptual projects enhancing joint fires coordination and air-land integration.

The Future Artillery conference (www.future-artillery.com) provides a forum at which senior officers responsible for fire support equipment requirements and procurement can share expertise alongside military theorists and recent operational commanders. Highlights of the 2010 conference agenda include:

  • Keynote Presentation from the new Commanding General of the US Army Fires Centre of Excellence and Fort Sill, Major General David Halverson, outlining the strategic priorities of the field artillery.
  • A British Army / UK MoD morning focussing on future requirements for the UK's indirect fire capability, operational feedback from the mission in Afghanistan and current equipment projects. Briefings will be provided by Colonel Greg Cole (Equipment Capability Deep Target Attack, UK MoD), Colonel Mike Ross (AD Capability HQ Director Royal Artillery) and a representative* of Artillery Systems Project Team, DE&S, UK MoD. * Pending final approval.
